White&White / Art Installation
In a world where the role of women is being redefined, our minds have been trained to see Sita only as gentle, devoted, obedient and Draupadi as outspoken, revengeful, aggressive. But maybe we have painted these characters with only half of their true personality, restricting us from accepting a woman who is capable of both.
I can Endure, I can Fight,
I can Forgive, I can Avenge,
I’m Reserved, I’m Fearless,
I’m Gentle, I’m Bold,
I’m Sita, I’m Draupadi,
I’m both, both are me.
A contemporary take on Sita and Draupadi, two central women characters from the ancient Indian epics belonging to the Hindu mythology.
White & White is an art installation that tells the story of a Girl’s journey of discovering conflicting facets to her personalities, portrayed through a series of hand embroidered photographs. The title ‘White & White’ attempts to challenge the belief of an absolute ‘Black or White’ world. In each artwork, the black and white photograph is my 'Sita', and the red embroidery, my ferocious 'Draupadi'.
